2.1 Who we are

Escala is a product of Technology Foundry S.A.E., 22B Taha Hussein Street, 8th Floor, Apartment 34, Zamalek, Qasr El Nil, Cairo, Egypt.

2.2 Our two roles

  • For employees' reports, the company that subscribes to Escala (the employer) decides why and how the data is used. We process it on that company's behalf and on its instructions. Employees with questions about their data should contact their employer first; we help the employer answer.
  • For our own customers and visitors — dashboard users, billing contacts and people who request a demo — we decide how the data is used.

2.3 What we collect

From our customers' employees, through WhatsApp: name and phone number (given to us by the employer), WhatsApp account details, the voice notes, texts and photos they send, the written transcript of each voice note, the category and severity the system gives each report, and the record of who was alerted, when, and who acknowledged or resolved the report. Reports can describe injuries or health matters.

From dashboard users: name, work email, sign-in details (handled by our sign-in provider), what they record in the dashboard (such as how a report was resolved, notes and photos), and what they do in the dashboard.

From billing contacts: name, email, phone number and payment history. Card details are entered on Paymob's page and handled by Paymob; we never see or store full card numbers.

From people who request or book a demo on this website: name, company, email, phone and message.

Technical data: our hosting and sign-in providers keep standard logs, such as IP address and browser type. Signing in uses cookies that are needed to keep you logged in. This website also stores your language choice in your browser. We use no analytics or advertising cookies.

2.4 Why we use it

  • To provide Escala: confirm reports, turn voice notes into text and label them, alert the people on the company's escalation ladder (by WhatsApp, and by email where the company has chosen email copies), send the reporter's voice note and photos to the person who acknowledges, keep the record, and show it on the dashboard to the company's own users.
  • To run the service: daily system checks, security, and fixing faults.
  • To bill subscriptions and send service emails: payment, trial and account notices, and the periodic summary email, which each user can switch off.
  • To reply to demo requests.

We process personal data only where the law allows it: to perform our contracts with our customers, to meet our legal obligations, where it is needed for our legitimate interests in running a secure and reliable service and does not override the rights of the people concerned, or with consent — for employees' reports, the consent their employer obtains.

We do not sell personal data and do not use it for advertising.

2.5 How long we keep it

  • Voice notes and photos are deleted automatically after the number of days agreed with each customer company: 60 days unless agreed otherwise, and never fewer than 7.
  • Transcripts, labels and report history are kept so the company has a complete record of its incidents, until the company asks us to delete its account (see Terms 1.8). We then delete them within 30 days.
  • Demo requests are kept for 12 months, then deleted.
  • Billing records are kept for as long as Egyptian tax and accounting law requires.

2.6 Who we share it with

Only with the service providers we need to run Escala, under contract with them:

Except Paymob, these providers store or process data outside Egypt, including in the European Union and the United States. We may also disclose data where Egyptian law requires it.

2.7 Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Each company's dashboard shows only that company's data to its own users, and only our authorised staff can access customer data, to run and support the service. If a breach affects personal data, we notify the Personal Data Protection Center and the affected customers within the time the law requires, and help customers inform the people affected.

2.8 Your rights

Under Egyptian law you can ask to know what personal data we hold about you, get a copy, have it corrected or deleted, limit how it is used, withdraw your consent, object to its use, and be told of a breach that affects it. Employees of our customers should contact their employer first. Send requests to kenzy@thefoundry.run. We answer free of charge, within the time the law requires. You can also complain to the Personal Data Protection Center.

2.9 Changes

We post any change on this page with a new "last updated" date, and email customers' owners and admins about important changes.

2.10 Language

This policy is published in English and Arabic. If the two versions differ, the English version prevails.
